What does the IVF mean?

IVF is a short form of the term In-Vitro-Fertilisation and it contains the insemination outside the body.

Which kind of treatment methods are offered in Wunchbaby-centre?

  • Confirming of an ovulation
  • Ultrasound as well as 3D - ultrasound
  • Hormonal determination (between the second and the fifth day of a cycle)
  • Hormonal stimulation of ovaries
  • Insemination (contribution of sperm from a partner or from a donator) - in the range of the Austrian legal provisions of vagina

  • ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) – thereby only one sperm will be directly injected to the egg cell

Which statement do you need to bring with by the first interview?

You need to bring all statements; you have to avoid new testing. Furthermore, if it is possible, you need following basic testing: red chalk titer, Sekret aerobe and anaerobe, Chlamydia smear test, PAP and hormone status of female, Spermiogram included bacteriological testing by male, HIV and Hepatitis B and C-Serology of male and female.

Who carries out the interventions?

The interventions like punction and transfer are carried out by Mr.Prof. Feichtinger, Mrs Dr. Liebhart, Mrs. Dr. Fischlmaier and Mrs. Dr. Käfer.

Who is responsible for supervising of pregnancy?

Basically your registered doctor is responsible for supervising of pregnancy, but we ask for coming again after positive pregnancy test to carry out the last ultrasonic testing. You can make the pregnancy test at home or in our institute.

Is it possible to get financial support for an IVF- treatment?

The IVF-fund was established in 1992 by law to make possible IVF-treatments for pairs without children and to accord them financial support. The IVF-fund bears 70 % of costs for four IVF-trials.

Which criteria have to be met for IVF funds?

Both partners have to have an official health insurance in Austria. Individuals who don't have Austrian citizenship have to have health insurance in Austria for at least three months. Age limit is 40 years for a women and 50 years of age for men. Medical criteria for IVF are: mutually closed, removed or non functioning Fallopian tubes, PCS-syndrome and Endometriosis. If the reason is limited male fertility, it has to be shown through two spermograms four weeks from each other that are not older than two years, which confirm a serious non fertilization (concentration < 10 million; mobility < 30% or pathological forms > 70%)

How about psychological support?

There are educated and experienced psychotherapists in Wunschbaby-centre, responsible for supporting couples who desire to have children. Psychotherapists are following each phase of medical treatment if couple express their wish for that.

Which methods are not allowed in Austria?

  • Donation of egg cells
  • IVF with donated sperms
  • Surrogacy
  • donation of embryo
  • Insemination of extraneous sperms for single women
  • Preimplantation diagnostics, only exception: polar bodies diagnostics
    (this is offered from Wunschbaby-centre)

Not all fertilization treatments are similarly permitted in all countries. As already mentioned, donation of egg cells and IVF-treatment with donation of sperms is not permitted in Austria n, but in Czech Republic are these treatments permitted. It will be great for us at the institute in Vienna to carry out pretreatments for pairs, who will maybe fulfill the desire to have a child with this treatment.

Is it necessary to be married?

It is not necessary to be married. However, couples who are not married have to get the confirmation from notary or district court in order to approve that both partners agree with a treatment.
